Denuvo Gets a Breakthrough in Its Lawsuit Against voices38

We reported yesterday about the active nature of the legendary game pirate ‘voices38’. We published an article talking about voices38 cracking the Denuvo DRM-protected title Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2, but its predecessor (Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles) was also cracked on the exact same day.

TorrentFreak has been reporting on Denuvo’s lawsuit, and current updates reveal what could be a major breakthrough in this case.

Denuvo originally requested 46 pieces of data pertaining to voices38, but the court has only approved 9 of them. While this is a significant reduction, it is still a major breakthrough in Denuvo’s attempt to unmask what has been the most painful threat in its existence. This request for information is part of Denuvo’s DMCA anti-circumvention lawsuit.

Recently, the Californian judge stated the original request was voluminous and could pose privacy concerns. Denuvo was given an option to reduce its subpoenas by referring to a narrow subpoena model from another case. Denuvo, though, stuck to its claim for IP addresses and contact information, as this would be critical to its attempt to trace voices38.

These narrower subpoenas have finally been granted. November 3 has been set as the deadline for the platforms (Discord, Reddit, and Valve) to provide this data.

Time will tell if this information gets Denuvo any closer to unmasking the notorious pirate known as ‘voices38’.
